Title: Chairman, president and CEO of The Entertainment Internet, Inc., a post he has held since January. TEI is the parent company of Castnet.com, an Internet theatrical and television database sanctioned by the Producers Guild and currently used by more than 300 casting directors and 160 talent agencies.
Background: Mr. Solomon co-founded Telepictures Corp., which became one of the largest U.S. television syndication companies. When Telepictures merged with Lorimar, Mr. Solomon was named the company`s president. He later became president of Warner Brothers International Television. In 1994, he formed Solomon International Enterprises.
Building TEI: As part of his nonexclusive deal, Mr. Solomon will initially focus on the expansion and diversity of Castnet.com`s online services. However, he maintains he`s in it for the long haul. "I`m a builder. When I take on a project, I have to see it right to the end. I can see this really becoming an incredible worldwide service. The name of our company is The Entertainment Internet, so you can imagine all the things we can do under that banner."
Expansion plans: Plans are under way to expand services in New York, Paris, Rome and Latin America. Already complete is a site called CastnetLatino.com. As owner of a television network in South America and the largest independent television production company in the Spanish-speaking world, Mr. Solomon understands the unique needs of the Latino market.
"I`ve always been very familiar with the lack of Latino talent in television and motion pictures. Right now, the Latino community is growing in leaps and bounds, but the percentage of talent is very small." Asian American and African American sites are planned within the next 12 months.
On emerging competition: "I`ve always been a firm believer that there`s room for competition. Since I`ve been in the entertainment industry for 43 years, I know what the production and creative communities are looking for, and I intend to create that service and be the best at it. I`m not afraid of the competition. The more the merrier. At the end of the day, it`s the creative community and production community that will benefit. |
